Parents Plus ADHD Programme Training in Bristol

Last week, Parents Plus was delighted to host our first in-person scheduled training, open to professionals from education, mental health and community sectors in the UK. Taking place at Lockleaze Sports Centre in Bristol over three days, we welcomed over 20 professionals to train in the Parents Plus ADHD Programme with Senior Trainer, Fred Ehresmann, and ADHD Project Lead, Lisa Whitlock.
The Parents Plus ADHD Children’s programme (PP-ADHD) is a practical, solution-focused and evidence-based course that builds on parent strengths. Once trained, facilitators can deliver the programme to groups of parents or individual families over eight sessions. Over the course of the three days, trainees gained:
- A broad understanding of ADHD and its impact for families.
- Skills to deliver the programme via face-to-face and online sessions, to groups and individual families
- Opportunities to observe and practise these skills to become a solution-focused facilitator
- Methods to build on parents strengths as a basis for ongoing change
- A chance to strengthen inter-agency and community partnerships.
As well as professionals from Bristol and the South West, we also had participants travel to the training from as far afield as Wales and Northern England, demonstrating the demand for evidence-based parenting programmes like this in the UK. Feedback from trainees about the content and delivery of the course, as well as the need for an Adolescent ADHD programme in their service, was overwhelmingly positive.
Your passion and enthusiasm really made it easy to listen to the content and I can say I was engaged all week. It has made me eager to deliver the programme to our families within CAMHS. You both were really friendly, and supportive of any questions or uncertainties. The different learning styles and how the content was delivered made me want to come back for more.

I really liked the structure of the programme and how the sessions become really parent led, which I think is exactly what our parents want/need.
Emma Nowell, Lead Parenting Officer – Torfaen Council Wales
Parents Plus would like to express our sincere appreciation to our partners at Bristol County Council’s Families in Focus team for working with us to make this event possible and ensure that more families in the UK can access the support they need. We look forward to continuing to expand the Parents Plus offering in the UK both in-person and online into the future.
